Anne Rice, THE WOLVES OF MIDWINTER

Anne Rice appeared on the October 31st episode of CBS THIS MORNING to discuss her new bestselling novel, THE WOLVES OF MIDWINTER. Knopf published the book on October 15, 2013.

Robert Hilburn, JOHNNY CASH: THE LIFE

JOHNNY CASH: THE LIFE has received some wonderful praise in its first week of publication. The LA TIMES called it “a comprehensive and thoughtful biography” and says that “Hilburn does an artful, enviable job of reconciling all the facets [of Cash]…[and] writes with a remarkably steady hand. Salon discussed it in a piece on big biographies and excerpts from the book were published on the Daily Beast, which called it “a vivid new biography.”

Olivia Laing

Olivia Laing was awarded the 2014 Eccles British Library Writer in Residence Award. Now in its third year, the Award promotes awareness of the British Library collections relating to the USA and allows the recipient to use the collections to research their upcoming publications. Picador will publish Laing’s book THE TRIP TO ECHO SPRING on December 24, 2013.

THE KEPT by James Scott

James Scott’s THE KEPT was reviewed in Booklist, which said, “This taut revenge tale, as gritty as any western, is also an unusual coming-of-age story and compelling saga of twisted secrets…Scott writes with sustained intensity and strong descriptive powers.” Harper will publish the book on January 7, 2014.

THE TRIP TO ECHO SPRING by Olivia Laing

Olivia Laing’s THE TRIP TO ECHO SPRING was given a starred review in Booklist, which said, “Intently observant, curious, and empathetic, Laing, with shimmering detail and arresting insights, presents a beautifully elucidating and moving group portrait of writers enslaved by drink and redeemed.” Laing was also interviewed in Publisher’s Weekly about the relationship between writers and alcoholism. Picador will publish the book on December 24, 2013.

Rilla Askew

Rilla Askew’s essay “Rhumba,” published in the January 2013 issue of Tin House, was mentioned in the New Yorker Blog, which said, “Askew’s poetic meditation on life in rattlesnake country also encompasses family, violence, and the unavoidable risks of life.” Her latest book KIND OF KIN was published by Ecco on January 8, 2013.
