Wendi Gu

Associate Agent

Wendi grew up splitting her time between China and the sleepy suburbs of Chicago, and stayed there to study Creative Writing at Northwestern University. As an undergraduate, she interned under children's book agent Brenda Bowen at Sanford J. Greenburger Associates, where she was hired as an assistant shortly after graduation. Under Brenda's mentorship, she started agenting her own children's books, and now represents both adult and children's books with a focus on social justice, identity negotiation, and the immigrant experience. Additionally, she loves working with animal-related picture books and early readers with a warm, gooey center.

Wendi was raised on a twofold approach to language; her mother, a rhetorician, focused on persuasion, while her dad, a Chinese language instructor, focused on clarity and precision. Wendi takes both modes of conveying meaning to evaluate the books she chooses to represent. She has a hands on, editorial approach to agenting. On the weekends, she works at Dou Yoga in Brooklyn.
